Camassia Preserve, June 8, 2023

Camassia is an urban retreat just off the freeway, so the sound of trucks and cars going by is always present. It is not your getaway from the city life, the highway sound is always heard. But it is an oasis of oak forest and savannah in the midst of city life. Thank you to The Nature Conservancy for saving and protecting this great little space. It was a bit overcast when I hiked the short loop trail, looking in particular for the rare white larkspur. Alas, none were in bloom. I am not sure if I missed them or they haven’t bloomed yet: I saw no leaves to show either way. But I did find many other flowers in bloom: white hyacinth, small flowered blue eyed Mary, yarrow, many buttercups down by the pond. And a very interesting group of galls on one oak tree.
