Grassy Knoll, June 21, 2023
Grassy Knoll is one of my favorite hikes; you travel through meadows and forest and rock outcroppings with their own special favorite flowers. There are three main rock areas: the first has sub alpine mariposa lilies, the second scalloped onions and the third is a combination of those. All also have two or three types of penstemon. The forest is uphill and filled with vanilla leaf and windflowers (anemone). I found a couple of coralroot plants and Solomon’s Seal, twisted stalk, larkspur, Indian paintbrush, lupine, and fringe cup. And the meadow as you begin the trail was filled with mariposa lilies, paintbrush, white western groundsel, tapertip onions. I counted almost 50 different types of wildflowers on this sunny day hike.
