William L Finley Wildlife Refuge, Oct 29, 2022
The William L Finley Wildlife Refuge is about 2 hours south and west of Portland. Mostly oak forest, fir forest, savannah and marshy areas. This Woodpecker Loop Trail is mostly oak forest. We heard an owl, but no matter how much we strained our necks looking into the trees to locate the owl, we were not successful. We drove on through the Refuge and came to a marshy area where we saw one great blue heron and four snowy egrets, two in trees and two in the marsh. This place requires a springtime return trip.
